Could someone point me towards a thread or article on how to teach "out" or "drop it"? I searched, but must not be using the right key words...
My 18 month GSD loves to fetch, but sometimes getting the ball back is a problem! He can tell when I want to play: he'll drop the ball at my feet but then try and snatch it back when I go to pick it up. If I'm sitting on the couch doing something else and he wants to play, he'll come and drop it in my lap, then go sit and/or lie down right in front of me and wag his tail until I throw it for him. I got a ball-on-a-rope toy this weekend, and the two or three times we've played with it he alternates between dropping it and wanting to play tug of war. T.o.W. is not a game I want to start with him. FYI, He's not very food driven; show him his ball and he'll do almost anything though-
