My dog is going to start her raw diet in about a week (finally). A month ago or so I went to a pet expo and got a lot of free sample bags w/high quality kibble along w/some meat rolls. I have, and am currently using them for training treats. I was wondering if it's ok to keep using them while she is on raw? I don't give her much, or even everyday, but I DO use them here and there. Maybe a handful every other day.
I would use a quality natural kibble for training treats. It's a small portion of the total diet, so you should be fine.
My young dog goes nuts over any kind of food, so I usually use Canidae or EVO kibble for his training treats - it's easy to use and pretty cheap for treats. My older dog is not big on food so she gets string cheese or cooked chopped liver.
I'm glad you guys use or have used it too. I got a ton of stuff at that expo, canidae, evo, innova, cs.... It would be a shame not to be able to use it. I figure as a training treat, it should last me 8-10 mos. There were some bags of NB also, but I don't think I'll be using that anymore.
I am using Wellness dog treats, they have apple and bananas I believe in them. The dogs really seem to like them. I also use Zukes Training treats that are chicken or salmon, but they are slightly moist and dry out in my pocket during walks.
I use hotdogs, chesse, summer sausage, left over cooked meat, dehydrated liver and chicken, cocktail weiners, etc. My dogs also work for anything edible so I give them a variety and save special things(the cooked meat) for dumbbells.
I use kibble and/or cheap puppy biscuits as treats with 2 of my dogs. I don't use them within 4 hours of a raw meal. I had a rescue dog get sick from feeding raw and dry treats too close together.
Otherwise, all the ideas listed above are great!
I use the Leerburg snap-open bait bag and it keeps the Zukes mini treats soft for up to 3 months. (Obviously discovered accidentally )
