Wow - I should know this... and since my laptop is broken and I can't play my Leerburg DVDs, I have to ask!
I've been doing the work in the DVD Preparing Your Dog for the Helper with my dog. He will be evaluated soon - thinking about joining a SchH club.
After a dog has developed defense drive and been worked in it, is it OK to continue to work on the dog's grip on the bite bar in prey drive with the handler holding/wearing the bite bar?
It think the answer is yes, but I have only trained in prey drive so far and I don't want to mess up the dog too badly
I'm not sure who will do it or when. (So the question is hypthetical at this point).
Kado is being evaluated over a period of time by MVSV (www.mvsv.org). The club only invites teams for membership if they believe the team can achieve a minimum of a SchH 1.
Today the training director (Angeli) seemed to mostly be interested in his prey/play drive, how he took to a new field, would he tug with a stranger, can he take some physical pressure while tugging with a stranger (just being bumped around and roughed up a bit) and where he is in OB.
In my personnel opinion and experience (only 2 years so someone might correct me on this)
To me it is fine to play with your dog with a tug toy and bite bar, actually i think its always good to work on your dogs grip like this. BUT i do not agree with at all the handler putting on the bite bar and having the dog bite the handler. To me that makes the dog more equipment dependent. I don't want any training to do with my dog attacking me.
