Does anyone have experience feeding their dog venison? I have a chance to get a bunch of frozen Deer meat and I am wanting to feed this as a supplement to my dog. Thanks for you're help in advance!
I have fed a little to my dog. It came about one evening at a fellow members house (Cindy). Little Bucky got hit and so we didn't want to waste him so Cindy had him butchered into ground meat. My dogs liked it just fine and didn't have any problems on it. I have tried several years in a row to get deer meat from some hunters that I know. I have been out of luck. I say go for it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
My GSDs get both deer and elk thrown in with the normal beef and chicken ration. The terriers also get rabbit on occasion. I have had no problems in almost 11 years.
Don't ever bring the whole deer home, you know, hide and all. We always field dress it. Deer ticks suck. Really they suck. . .
I'm amazed to be getting the replies I'm getting. I don't think I have read one post concerning Deer meat or wild game on this board. Thanks for all of the reassuring posts on this topic. I really thought I would hear things like Deer meat is "TOO RICH" and stuff like that.
The Deer meat is from a Deer my brother shot last year so it's been in his deep feezer for a while. Wrapped very well. He tells me that it is still good. He has ground up Deer burgers and also some part of the Deer he makes jerky from. He tells me it's some of the best meaty part of the Deer. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Deer meat very lean?
