Hi all,
I would like to start feeding my dog RAW. I was hoping someone would have info where I could buy in my area. I live in Hopkinton, MA.
Thanks in advance,
Tracy and Truman
Aren't you right near Framingham/Natick (or Milford)?
There are lots of supermarkets in those areas, and I think many (maybe most) new raw feeders start with the butcher counter at the supermarket.
Make friends with someone behind the counter. Ask about chicken backs. They are often VERY cheap, but sometimes have to be ordered ahead, and in kinda large quantities.
Once you start, you can be developing other sources (BARF clubs, Costco-type stores, online providers, etc.).

Also, you can do a search on this forum and come up with a zillion different ways to find and decrease cost on food. I think I have typed out (in detail) what I do at least half as much as the other raw feeders here.

I get my chicken necks from a small family owned and operated butcher shop. I get 40 pounds of fresh chicken necks packed in a sealed plastic bag inside a heavy cardboard box. My cost is $15.00. It usually takes them a couple of days to get them from their source. You might be able to get the same arrangement from a grocery store by asking if they can order in bulk. (assuming you have the freezer space at home)
For those who live in areas where Aldi grocery stores are locasted, they have the best price on ground turkey by FAR that we've seen. At least in our area. We feed a lot of chicken, so we supplement the RMB's with extra ground turkey. (and of course the other veggies and supplements too....) I hadn't even checked out Aldi and was paying lots more for ground turkey for ages. Our holistic vet turned us on to that shopping tip!
