My goodness! I had no idea that raising people's awareness to the sham that is organic would raise up hackles to such an extreme! First of all let me say this... I happen to buy organic most any chance I get for my family. I figure it's probably better than the alternative...that being said, let me state that only recently was I made aware of the fact that just because it says organic doesn't mean that is what it means. I have a friend that was raised on a farm. She told me that in order to raise mass amounts of produce without pesticides, hormones, etc. was near impossible. She is now a personal trainer and a nutritionist and is the person that informed me that just because it says organic doesn't really mean much. Now, are there manufacturers out there that produce a nice organic product? I guess so..and I'm thrilled to hear it. What I was doing was trying to inform folks that good ole USDA, government issue, organic food does not always mean what most of us would think it means. I did not for a minute mean to "put down" organic foods. All I was trying to do was share the simple FACT that with research one might find that the comfort that the word organic should bring might turn out to be a subtle difference, at best. My intentions were not to offend anyone regarding organic usage. All I can say is, consider yourself lucky to live in an area where you can legitimately find food that is what it says it is. The pet food recall was only the tip of the iceberg. If nothing else it has urged us as consumers to find out more about what we are feeding our animals and our families. Educating ourselves to what the government finds acceptable is all I was trying to convey. My apologies...

Yes, "better than the alternative" was pretty much the gist of the responses.
There are many problems with big ag, and certainly, we've all read recently, in the "organic" label system.
BUT --- We are getting far from training dogs, and even from feeding dogs, here.
I think dog food is a bit different, for one we don't take a habit of tasting our dog food before we decide to feed it.In organic , the taste, the size ,the color will tell you for sure that it's better and if I find a worm on one my tomatoes ,I find that a relief.I think if you look at the amount of cancer patients today as supposed to 20 years ago, it is a red flag for all the crap we put in our mouth that we don't see or taste.I see the size difference in chickens and turkey and that really scares me to think that in such a small amount of time they are as big as they are.IN Organic poultry it is so much smaller...Scary.
