Okay, I’m confused (and a little worried after what Cindy posted). According to Leerburg’s prongs, my dogs couldn’t possibly wear a micro or a mini because of their size. But the regular prong shown is much bigger than the ones I have. Any ideas? Cindy?
Yes you can buy extra links. Micro prongs are good for hard dogs that need that extra umph in correction, but I know alot of people break them tiny lil things eventually because they bend easy. It's more reactive than a larger prong, as Cindy said, good for fine tuning.

My guess is that for the sake of photographs the girls in the office used a large prong to show the differences and detail.
In the Doberman photos on this page http://leerburg.com/fit-prong.htm Dayma is in a MEDIUM prong, for the sake of photos. The small is what I would typically use for her.
I always use the small regular prong, and even those prongs get bent if I am using it in bitework. For a dog like Xando, who is not only a hard dog, but has a super dense coat, I will use a medium prong.
That makes sense. I read on the article in regards to the low and loose prong thread, where the lady says she seldomly uses a large prong:
"I rarely used a Medium or Large prong collar except on the largest dogs (example - on a large Rottie, I might use a Medium; on a 165 lb. Great Dane, I did use the Large!) Generally speaking, most dogs under 75 lbs. get the best fit and the best results with the small prong collar."
Maybe that's what a lot of people use on their short coated dogs and why my dogs prong looks so huge. I have a 55lb Boxer & a medium prong collar. I may have to spend $ on another prong collar.

All my prongs are large or medium also....no micros.
Woo! Hoo!
I really learned something today...mainly that I would not use a micro prong with my dogs (except the Dutchie)....and especially not the Bloodhound....
I already have enough collars to start a store so I am good for a while anyway.
