This is my opinion and my opinion only.
Somewhere with the birth of the internet came the idea that everyone could and should define what a responsible breeder is and hold breeders up to a standard dictated by mass posting.
You can find this all over the internet, especially on boards that cater to the pet population. Number of litters, titling, cost of puppies, the list goes on and on.
What I want from a breeder is what I basically want from anyone that I do business with---non misrepresentation. If you choose not to title your dogs, fine--but don't tell me you adhere to the SV standard for breeding. If the majority of the pups produced from you kennel are happy in pet homes, that's wonderful but don't tell me your primary market is law enforcement.
No breeder is going to produce more dogs then they can sell.
Not for long anyways. I know breeders that have a hard time placing one litter and I know others that place multiple litters satisfactorily. I do not think you can assign a number to the "proper" amount of dogs produced.
Vote with you money. If a breeder offends your morals or sense of ethics, move on, there is no shortage of breeders.
Well said and I think when people speak bad or negative about a breeder yet have not gone to see them in person or really know much about the breeder in question...what are the motives? why spend so much time on it when like you said their are many other breeders out there to do business with..
