Judy, you are not only are 100% correct but you say it better than I ever could!
She isn't going to listen to one single word anyone says unless they agree with her. I can never understand why people bother wasting other people's time when they have no intention of listening.
the breeder has been involved with presas since 1975. the dog became to familiar with everyone my inlaws would come in contact with on a day to day bases. the dog became so friendly even with strangers that someone left there puppy in my yard so that they can play together..... i've been giving the two pup situation thought too. ever since i posted my message i've been doing other researches. like i've stated before i haven't received the pups yet. even though i gave my deposits i still need to go over some questions and concerns with the breeder.
Did you buy your Presa Canario after the dog attack on Diane Whipple?
Please by the book about the mauling. This book documents what can happen when dogs (especially) of this type are not given clear leadership and are raised by people who do not understand canine/pack behavior.
Please look at this link. Read the article and watch the video.
According to news reports the woman's boyfriend wanted to get rid of the dog PRIOR to the incident. Her children were afraid of the dog. Unfortunately her daughter was a witness to the WHOLE INCIDENT.
you could even take the food out of his mouth without an ounce of fear he would turn on you.
As his pack leader, you SHOULD be able to remove things from his mouth (if necessary). If all the information you are giving is accurate, I will say you have a guardian angel and are lucky your dog didn't decide to correct a subordinate pack member.
It also sounds as if the dog was not given any walks, socialization or obedience classes. If you insist on owning TWO of these animals that are known for their TENACITY and BRAWN (not brains), I hope you socialize, exercise and take them to many obedience classes. If you do not do that, I do hope you send your children to live somewhere they can be safe. They WILL NOT be safe in that environment unless you heed the warnings of MANY!
I suspect your "breeder" does not have extensive experience with the breed.
If I were going to by a PRESA, I would ensure the breeder wanted to know more about ME and my experience with dominant breeds.
Please don't get two puppies. Please get one. Please listen.
Lisa,
I know someone with an AWESOME GSD. He was let out into the yard and went about his business. He wasn't trying to kill anyone but he wasn't trying to love them to death either.
Now, if you approach his owner's home when he is inside. (Let's say you are going to ring the bell.) This dog tells you that you are not welcome. He scared me and he was INSIDE THE HOUSE. I don't doubt for a minute that he will die trying to protect his family if necessary.
Of course he is a dog that needs an EXPERIENCED handler with GSD knoeledge.

The nerve of'em, socialising the beast. How do they expect you to properly terrorize the neighbors with a dog like that. Good thinking to get two that way you have a 50/50 chance for that uncontrollable maniac you seem to be hoping for. See you in the papers.
