Many of you are aware that our little pup started struggling with issues of Diahreah from weeks 12 through 15, and so forth.
I removed all "commercial" dog food and treats from the house and made the transition from IAMs Puppy to Cooked Meat & Rice to Nature's Variety and finally to Canidae. I am very happy with the Canidae and the firmness of the stools.
Now the interesting thing ... Last Thursday evening, my pup managed to get ahold of the last 2 slices of pizza, as I had left it on the counter and forgot to put it into the frig. So after Buddy finished his evening meal of Canidae, he ate the 2 slices of pizza and even some of the cardboard box.
What was interesting was that I fully anticipated a bout of diahreah within the following (24) hours but none happened. So I'm now curious ... Is it that his Diet is so much improved that he could handled 2 slices of pizza without incident or is the wheat used in Pizza Dough significantly different than the Wheat that is put into Dog Food?
Just Curious! He's still not getting any more toast. :-)
I beleive that, over time, when a dog is put onto a good food (with a good variety of ingredients, not corn in five different forms) their immune system builds and is better able to tolerate previous allergens and sensitivities.
Example being my GSD bitch was severely allergic to beef when she was fed kibble. The smallest beef treat sent her itching for days, to the point of damage to herself. But after being fed a raw diet, she was slowly able to tolerate more and more beef. To the point where she could handle a meal where the protein source was beef. Feed beef two days in a row and she would break out and itch horribly, but she could handle it in small amounts.
Thinking back, the same thing happened to wheat, to a lesser degree mind you, but over time she did tolerate breads more.
