I can see doing that with this book, i haven't taught the Voraus in a while and I am doing that with Bandit now, so it is nice to go to the book for different ideas or refreshing my memory..
I have the Schutzhund Obedience book and have been meaning to get the other one that Connie linked to.
It is an easy read as far as training books go and I love the way the all the exercises are explained from start to finish. I keep the book on the coffee table and pick it up all the time to review a chapter.
It would be fun to have some discussion on the forum on how our training is going using the methods in the book.
Wow, thanks for the book review Sandy! ...
(Sandy, have you tried out any of the training techniques/ideas on your little man yet? )
Oh my gosh, you have your puppy? Photos, post photos, he or she, what's his/her name?
Ok, I'm busted!! I did go to the heeling chapter before completely finishing all the chapters before it, and tried the very first step of training the heel a few times...and I'll probably keep doing that step until I finish the first chapters and Lear is ready to move on. All I can say at this point is Lear is responding beautifully and looks like those dogs in competition videos, all animated. Of course, he's not trained yet, it's the treats he's after, but he doesn't move ahead or get in front or jump up to get them. I'm keeping the sessions real short, less than a minute.
But I will not move on to any other chapter until the first chapters talking about the foundation are finished, I promise!
It would be fun to have some discussion on the forum on how our training is going using the methods in the book.
Okay, I want in. I checked all the libraries in BC an they don't have the book, so I broke down and bought it
It may be a while before i get it, but I will watch the thread.
I like to do obedience in drive with my dog, but obviously we don't compete or do sch. He seems a little bored and distracted lately, despite short swithced around training sessions so maybe I need to go back to the begining and this book might help!
Things I am especially interested in are making commands in motion more snappy, and getting longer focus under distraction for distance commands. Actually I know the whole book will be interesting and educational.
Look forward to this thread if it sticks around for awhile.
I haven't gotten even opened mine yet. Too much wedding craziness going on. (Sigh) But it's good to know it's getting such good reviews. I'm sure it won't be collecting dust for too much longer.
Yuko I feel sorry for you cause I am going through the same thing with the 2 I have here!!! UH they are sleeping right now, I just started to separate them until they go to their new home..they hate it! Oh well... I am dying to see her, take pictures!!
Susan I tried the Voraus technique in the book ..AWSOME results!!! Bandit is a nut anyways but I like that techniques so much better than the one I have used in the past...Even for the people that do not do Schutzhund, teaching the Voraus is fun and easy for a dog who loves his toy...
I am buying a few mroe of that Book for friends in my Schtz. Club
I really like this Book....
Sandy I skip through the book and go to exercise I am working on right now and if I was to read from start to finish ,I think I would mix some, so don't feel bad for skipping through!
