Scott,
I also have issues getting the prong collar on my dog Nickie (8 1/2 month old bullmastiff/pitbull). We are getting better at it though. I have the H-S type from Leerburg with the quick release. Seems like it is just a positive attitude that I am the one in charge and he will get the collar on whether he likes it or not! The quicker you can get the collar on, the better - at least that is my experience with my dog.
I always have two or three bruises on my forearm where Nickie clamps down on my arm while I am quickly fastening the collar. He doesn't try to roll on the floor but he really tries to bite when I'm fastening it. He is over 65 lbs and really strong. We have to use the prong collar when I walk him each morning because he likes to pull (he is getting much better on his walks though). As far as the dominant dog collar, I just leave that one on all the time along with his flat collar.

What are you doing for correction on the dog biting you while you put the collar on?
IMHO, a dog (any dog for that matter) of that breed, size and age needs to learn that biting the handler because they do not like something needs to be stopped before it gets out of hand.
I don't mean to hijack at all.......

Carol,
Of course I firmly say "NO!" when he puts his teeth on me. He is getting better - I am really trying hard to put all of this advice into practice. You have to realize that this is the first dog that I have tried to train from a puppy (as I have found out, this is not the breed mix for first-time dog owners/trainers!) We owned a pitbull for 10 years before this one, but he was a real marshmallow!
