Has anyone had any luck cleaning a bite suit either by hand or at a dry cleaner (fingers crossed on this one) ?
We did line drags in the rain the other day and wet grass is rubbed all into the fabric. I dried it out with a de-humidifier but it smells like “old barn” … that wet hay smell.
Matthew, I imagine that if a bite suit gets wet inside, there's a possibility of mold. That wet hay smell might indicate it was still wet inside. I'm interested in what others say about cleaning a bite suit (I don't know how it's done). It seems at this point, a dry cleaner you trust would be the way to go. I'm sure they don't get many bite suits to clean so be careful. Doesn't seem a dehumidifier would be sufficient, it needs dry heat.
Or you can send it here to Phoenix . Like in Vegas as Angelique said, it would be dry in minutes, inside and out.
What type of fabric is used for the inside padding? I used to work at a dry cleaner, often times with certain comforters, etc, they simply washed them in the big washers/dryers in the back. I never did ask a customer if they knew this or not, as they were being charged the same as if it were being dry cleaned!!! Unless the garmet instructs to dry clean, wouldn't go there.
If you've already washed it according to instructions, what about either a spray with light bleach solution (color fast tested of course) or get a bottle of Febreze and dose it good with sunlight to dry.
Try washing it by hand in a tub and your detergent of choice. Bag half the suit in one of those big zip loc bags and then use a heavy duty shop vac to pull the water out. Use a dryer, fan or whatever to finish the job.
I have no idea what type of material is inside the suit. It has spent the last three days in our Sally Port (station garage) with the HVAC turned up to 85 and the fan going. The de-humidifier did a great job by the way of drying it out and has gotten rid of most of the “hay smell”.
I still need to clean it however. I’m going to start with a big bucket and some Cheer and see what happens. Worse case we have an industrial cleaner who cleans stage curtains and other large items who I will turn to. I also noticed that one of the pants buckles got destroyed as well last week. Luckily we have a shoe repair shop (yes they still exist) that should be able to fix that issue.
