Well I sure hope you were not refering to me as a backyard breeder! I purchased my pair for 2500 a piece. you nor anyone does not know me. I am very strict when it comes to breeding and where my animals go. If anyone wants to really help they wont judge others. Im sure there are breeders on this list who would be upset also that they are being told we need to control back yard breeders and go through test with our dogs to be sure they can breed. We live in America or don't we? I believe breeders are scared of competition that a new breeder will take there sale, its not always caring about dogs ending up in shelters its way more then that and that is the sadest thing! Im also breeding all long coats so I know most breeders are against these but its me not them who like them.

Tell yourself what you want, the truth hurts. You have two unproved dogs you want to breed, yet you know next to nothing about breeding. If you want to breed, good. Just learn about the breed first. Title your dogs. Learn about pedigrees and all the other things that go into producing good dogs. Anyone who judges the worth of a dog by what he paid for it has no business breeding. By the way, coated GSD's do not meet the standard.
I make no apologies for my strong feelings on this subject. Take the time to go to the local animal shelters or read the for sale ads in the newspapers. They are full of poorly bred, crippled, mentally deficient GSD's bred by well meaning but inept people. I am constantly amazed at the arrogance of people who think they should breed just because they can.
You can pay $10,000 for a shelter mutt with cataracts and hip dysplasia. Does that mean you should breed it, just because it was expensive?
There are enough GSDs out there as it is. There is very little demand for puppies from two untitled, non-standard dogs from an unknown breeder. You should not even be THINKING of breeding these two dogs until you prove their worth in the ring, being tracking, agility, schutzhund, obedience, herding, rally-o, whatever. You should not even be THINKING of breeding these two dogs without the guidance of a well-respected breeder who has been there, done that, and lived to tell about it. And you should not even be THINKING of breeding these two dogs until they are at minimum two years of age.
Who are my dogs unaproved by? My breeder who is also a vet sold me my Dogs they are breeder quality and capable of doing work. I like them so they are approved by me and many others who have seen them. I get no complaints.
Just because I don't compete in clubs or I breed long coats does not mean my dogs suck in other words or that they are dumb and can't learn or are not approved for breeding. I have done my own work with tracking and agilty, even though my dogs are only seen by me and family does not mean they can't compete. I just don't choose to do it I know how nasty it can get if you run into the wrong person.
There are also plenty short coat good hip dogs that are suposedly bred by professionals but later we find out are sick or turn agressive and kill kids. Every dog whether trained for thousands of dollars or just a family companion have the same chance ending up put down or in a shelter or people end up not wanting them. I am pricing my pups high so that hopefuly buyers will respect them more and keep them in forever homes. I know alot about breeding animals. I really don't think most breeders know everything unless they seen everything. I can take advice but I don't need people telling me what I am and what I know and what I breed is not good. I have been reading about this breed for years now and decided to breed them so you are incorrect about me needing to learn about the breed. I do know that I would like to learn more about the pregnancy and the puppy part but I have plenty of time as my dogs are only just over a year.
When it comes to coated Gs in most short coats long coats are carried. Its very hard to get that gene out and many great breeders sell them for breeding that have bred for many years. Good luck to people who want to get rid of the coated gene!
I will not reply back but only to people who want to be kind and help. People who judge others so fast are just plain ignorant. I never juge my dogs on the price what so ever but I know if you have more money people in this word think its so neat! I only wrote that so that some of you would look up to that. that is how I see this board. Dont bother to write. I am not coming on here for quite a while unless my dog is dying or I need real advice.
WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT ME BREEDING A SHELTER DOG OR A CRIPPLED DOG NOW ARE WE? You people are nuts! You need serious help for your mental problems!~!~

Yes and Plently of kids are born with defects to does that mean we should stop mating as well? Blame the breeder isn't that convenient for a dogs problems that we can't even see until its too late, that is wrong and its also life nothing alive is perfect we can only control a dogs health to an extent. That shoudl not stop someone from trying to make better dogs.
