You said yor venison had run dry, that is too bad. my favorite species appropriate, organic, free range food, mostly free food. Good red meat choice IMHO. I get ground venison in 20lbs bags from game butchers for next to nothing, trimings from hunting friends for nothing and I use a reciprocating saw to cut up the remaning carcasses into meal size peices of meaty ribs and vertebrea.... Pretty funny for the neighbours seeing a 110 lbs girl wrestling to sawsall up a bloody deer carcass on the front porch at night in hunting season Ahh what we will do for the dogs
Will you be able to load up again soon, or do you have to wait for hunting season?

Cheers
I would love to have a venison source. On top of all the pluses listed above, it's not grain-fed.
Jennifer mentioned a bunch of alternatives to provide protein variety. There's also lamb breast, and sometimes I see (and grab) buffalo on sale.
I always suggest playing around with the diet because that's the easiest part of your dog's life to control. It may be some allergen like dust mites or pollen or laundry detergent that make him ithcy but if you take all the likely offenders from his diet first and he still scratches after several weeks, then you can do more investigation.
I notice my dogs seem to do generalized scratching when they are blowing their coats twice a year, and it usually resolves itself quickly. I try to brush them every day, even if it's only for a few minutes.
Well, the itching seems to have taken an appreciable nose dive.
As much as I hated it, I took him to the vet. He had a couple small patches of infected skin. where that came from, I don't know. Anti-biotics seems to have taken care of those particular areas.
As for he general itching. A combo of frequent swimming, more aggressive brushing, and the reccomended dietary changes were enacted. What made the difference? I don't know.
A few weeks ago, I had an unexplained rash as well. Maybe we both got into something, and his never cleared up.
Whatever.
I'd rather do everything right and let it remain a mystery, rather than prolong the issue by finding out EXACTLY what caused it.
