RE: Anita and Anne: YES, I would consider taking my cell phone (with camera) there and getting as many photos as possible, including photos of the signs IDing the place, and something with today's date incuded in a photo of a cage (like a newspaper with a clear headline) and then get those photos to a newspaper/TV reporter/governor's office/etc.

I have contacted them already. I posted my reposnse. As for the others, I'm not sure.
I'll give them a call tomorrow or so when I have more time. I am swamped with things to do.
But going back to the ASPCA....
I said :
Ok, it got worse.
I called the Cruely Investigator at the Tulsa ASPCA and guess what? She said "The Investigator got married and left the state. We have no investigator now and haven't filled a spot. YOu're going to have to call the Tulsa Animal Shelter" which is where all this sh^t went down.

Easy there.... I don't think any of us were criticizing your reaction or actions or proposed solution. I for one just tuned into it sounded like you wanted to help the animals and were looking for support. We're all behind you! Sucks that you're so far out of the way (no, I didn't catch that the first time, either - sorry). But, now that you've posted the information, maybe someone else on this forum who reads this and is closer can do something. It sickens me to think of animals in those conditions.

Oh, right ... sorry.
I was just copying and pasting every Tulsa-area humane org I found.
OH MY GOSH! How horrible - I cannot imagine what I would do in a situation like this but I know that I would not be able to sleep until I knew that place was out of business.
Writing the governor and mayor and legislators is A GOOD IDEA. I know it sounds super corny to say that but I work for the state of Idaho and I am AMAZED at how much response a letter to them gets - especially one that says that copies of the letter will be taken to the media along with other evidence of the issue if there is not a response. I work on a crisis team with families that have children with developmental disabilities. When I find a family that is in crisis because it isn't getting what it is supposed to from the state/medicaid I tell them to write the governor and any other political person I know and it has worked EACH TIME.
Please do what you can to change this situation! Even if it is money in gas. Maybe postings on Craigslist or creating a website with the photos you have may help draw some media attention to it . . . . Please keep us updated! Kelly

It must be the first shelter. The second only takes wild animals. I will contact a friend that works for channel 9 here in OKC and I'm sure she'll know who in Tulsa would like to get on this story. If the people of Tulsa knew of the conditions at their shelter, I KNOW there would be change demanded.
Folks - I am closing this thread. While I agree this is a bad situation and it was OK to vent and there were good ideas to deal with this - my web board is a dog training web board and not an animal rights board.
Frankly I find situations like this depressing. The fact is dogs are abused all across our country every day. It's sad. All I can do is make sure my dogs are well taken care of and do what I can to support our local shelter
