I am looking to get an E-collar and use it to train my Choclate LAb puppy (just a bit over eight months old), and eventually my GSD, but I was looking around for videos other than Ed's (though I am gonna buy his also) and I can only find stuff on training "water" or "gun" dogs??
Would there be a difference in how the collar is used as far as basic commands or drive function is concerned?? Looked in lots of book stores for books aswell and not that many out there??
Just wondering if anybody here has and experience with both types of training?
Yes, I would say there is a difference in how the collar is used for a retriever versus a protection/schutzhund dog.
I have not trained retrievers but watched a video that came with my first Dogtra collar that I bought about 5 years ago and it was structured more towards retrievers and the use of the collar for the retrievers was very different from the way I use the collar in obedience and protection.
If you have not had experience using electric, I highly recommending seeing if there is anyone in your area who can show you the ropes. I have personally found that to be beneficial.

I'm gonna buy that video also, but just by my nature I need to do research, upon research because I don't like just one person's method (although I have never heard much bad about Ed's training outside of personal opinion), ad I feel as if I am missing something, or doing something wrong if I don't read, read, read on a subject with as many opinions and methodology as there are in dog training....
Thanks for the info folks.
Oh, eight months is old enough right? For the light stuff, an most likely won't be doing anything with a colar even if I buy one until I do more reading on the subject??
