Hi
I am new to German Shepherd Dogs, and have a now 6 month old Pup Fred. I take him to a German Shepherd School twice a week
The People Training there will not do any work with him or me as i am his handler until he is 8 months old
They show me the best ways to get him to walk to heel, Sit, Down, and come etc. But they will not allow him to Jump or anything more than i have said
He learns to socalise with people and other Dogs but not on the Training Field any contact between two dogs is not allowed only off the field. Plus the Pups are not allowed on the field when adult dogs are working
Is this system different from the ways of the USA trainers
By the way i am living in Belgium and this is there way,
I asked them why no jumping at 6 months and i was told to keep the stress of the legs for a bit until he gets stronger, and no tugging pressure on the Ball or lure while he is growing his adult teeth
Steve
Hi Steve, You can stil do drive building without tugging. I understand their concern reference his age and jumping, they're looking out for your dog. Dont know why they wont work with you though.

Hi Howard
Thanks for the reply, One of the longer servering Trainers stays out on the field with me whilst i do the walking, Sitting, Down and all these things, and corrects me when i do wrong But he says there is plenty of time once the dog gets a bit older and stronger. He says to get him do the basics and Socalize with other Dogs and People.
He has kept and worked with shepherds for 40 years so i cannot say anything to him, I speak a little Dutch he does not speak English so it is a small problem.
He said it is I who needs to learn, not so much the dog, and he is right, there is a great amount to learn about these Dogs, My main Sport is Racing Pigeons but since Owning this Pup i would like to get involved in the Sport to a degree, How Far is depending on how quick i pick things up. One thing is sure i can learn a lot from you guys by reading the posts and Eds DVDs will help me a lot

Hi Howard
Its now 53 years since i started the Pigeon Sport and we moved to Belgium at the age of 64 years old to follow a dream, that is to race against all Europe from the long distance International Races through to Barcelona, now i have the chance
Now i have another Interest the Shepherd Pup Fred, and it would be great to get to a standard so we could go into a competition, some way ahead, but is another Challenge for me
