I decided to go with Frontline Plus for flea and tick control.
The vet suggested that if I use a Preventic Tick Collar For Dogs then I can only apply the Frontline every 3 months. The collar also claims to last for 3 months.
Does anyone else go this route? I have never used a flea collar. I do remember the flea collars when I was little and they smell and were unpleasant.
Frontline Plus used every month is $175 for the large size dog for 1 year.
Preventic - $15.00 x 4 = $60.00
Frontline – Every 3 mos = $58.00

Hi Keith,
Our Docs really like using the Preventic collars, along with with Frontline, for those dogs who pick up a lot of ticks. According to the owners that use them, they work well.
I don't like to use that many chemicals on a dog. The active ingredient in Preventic collars is amitraz, it works by paralyzing the ticks jaws so they can't attach and feed. and yes they work great. Do you have that big a problem with ticks? The collars won't do a thing for fleas. For primarily fleas you can use Frontline every three months anyway depending on how bad they are in your area.
