About 7 months ago I wrote about my 4 month old pup, True. He had just been diagnosed with bilateral HD and I was heartbroken and without a whole lot of hope that he'd ever have a normal life. As you can see from the original post http://www.leerburg.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/119271/page/2#Post119271 I received a lot of encouragement, compassion, and wonderful advice.
True is now 11 months and we did another round of x-rays today(under sedation) just to see where things stand.
His hips haven't worsened at all! In fact, he's built up muscle and my doc said that the hip joints are so much tighter than when he manipulated them 7 months ago. He no longer limps, he can play all day with no ill effects and NO Metacam, he bunny hops less...he is a totally different dog. He'll never be 100% but he's living a fuller, pain-free, more normal life now and that's more than I ever believed possible 7 months ago.
I am grateful beyond measure to everyone on this forum for so generously sharing their experiences and advice and for steering me in the right direction with raw feeding, exercise, supplements, and, especially, Adequan therapy. It really did work!
Thank you all for helping me help True. You're a wonderful group of people!
I'm so happy for you and True; I know how heartbreaking it is to watch a beloved dog go through the pain of hip dysplasia. I couldn't imagine dealing with that in a puppy!!!
He's a lucky pup to have you. Your hard work and care with him really paid off. I hope you have a nice celebration for him tonight
Wow, Sarah-that's great! I was actually just going through some old PMs and came across ours from back then. Glad to know the Adequan helped; I was worried I'd maybe gotten your hopes up and I was really hoping he'd get better, or at least not worse! YAY!
