At what age should I start fasting once a week? Heidi's been on raw- 2 small meals/day-for about 6 months. She's about 15 months now....
I kept doing two small meals/day as she seems to occasionally throw up in the morning. Maybe 'cause her stomach is empty? I've been apprehensive to try fasting her for this reason.
The "fasting & immune system" thread back in Jan by Jason was very good...wondering how many of you starting fasting after that and what improvements you might have noticed after doing so.
After I started it from reading that post the results are unbelieveable. My dog was near death from allergies and a week immune system, which of course can hurt everything. Now he's healthier than he's ever been. Acts more spirted than he did as a pup.
I do it just like any day, but my dog is a pet. He's not a working GSD. You just give it water. It will not hurt the dog, and she will not throw up. On exercising and training, perhaps someone else can help you.
Once a week will not hurt things. Many dogs in the wild go more than a day without a meal, and I'm sure more than one day often times.
But I wouldn't do it more than one day a week.
To ease your curiousity, I've written to Jason several times before and these are some of the things he's told me to do. It's worked well. Quite a few people on the board practice this on the natural diet or without. It's natural strengthening tool for your dog's immune system in my mind.
