He is itching on his back legs, butt, and genital area. There are some little bumps. Some are red and some almost look like a little blister. There are about 10 bumps in all.
We've got tons of blood sucking creatures at the house. You can't go out at night without getting swarmed.
I took him to the vet about a year ago for itching and was told he had a flea allergy. That was back when I just did what I was told and didn't really ask any questions, so I don't know what a flea allergy looks like. The only pics I could find on the internet looked like worse case scenario and my dog's weren't near that bad.
I have looked him over very good and given a bath and can't find any signs of fleas, but I know it only takes one if he has an allergy.
I do find ticks regularly. He is white with short hair so they are easy to spot and never stay on for more than a couple hours tops. During the summer I check at least twice a day all over, in ears and between toes.
I can tell its gettin' on his nerves and would like to find something to give him relief.
Don’t know of a good cream that smoothes the itching, but my dog has flea allergy also and the bumps you describe are exactly what I saw on my boy.
We battled that for six months last year when we first brought him home. It took several rounds of antibiotics and prednisone to finally get him cleared up. We had the house and yard treated and tried using front-line but it wasn’t enough. He broke out in multilple bites on his back and stomach and we couldn’t find the darn fleas on him but the poor dog was miserable.
We switched to advantix in addition to spraying him with adam’s adult flea repellent to keep the fleas off and he has been clear since then. We just had the house and yard treated again last week, and so far we are still rash free. We live in a climate where the darn little blood suckers live all year long, so staying on top of the flea control is a big issue with us.
I should note that from the great advice I received from members of this board, I also switched him to a grain free good quality diet along with salmon oil and vit e and I’m sure that also contributed greatly to finally getting him cleared up.
My little male has the itchies all summer long. Grass allergy mostly. I wipe him off with a wet washcloth after he's been out running around outside of the yard and that helps some, Lanacane seems to work better than anything for his itchy bumps.
Oh, and just fyi, it might be fleas, but it also might be gnats. Gnats can and do bite and leave a heck of a whelp and itchy spot when they do.

Edit reason: add info
Thank you ladies. I was trying to avoid the flea meds, but need to go ahead and get them now. The bugs have been out for a while now and he was doing so good without it 'til a few days ago.
I'll also keep an eye out for gnats. I noticed a swarm around his hind end after he used the bathroom.
