I think that if the training is done right, in enough different places and creative enough...the dog figures it out and the lessons transfers.

Example...I have never practiced any home protection with my dog... I was leaving him in the house for a short time (we are working on separation anxiety) and I wanted to sneak around the house and peak in the window to see if he was destroying the couch. I thought the window air conditioner would drown out any noise from me. I had driven away and then sneaked back to peek in the window and came face to face with my dog's face, fully barred teeth and I could hear this awful growling... I quickly ran away..... ducking down so he could not see that it was me... :rolleyes:

I want to know as much as it is humanly possible that the dog will respond according to my expectations. Might , should do or probabaly will doesnt cut it. A animal who you are depending that dosent perform as expected is worse than useless, you behave in a manner predicated on that expectation and then that expectation dosent come to fruition.... you end up in a mess. Better you didnt have the dog in the first place because then you wouldnt have put yourself in the situation where he was needed.
