Anyhoo. Seems OP is satisfied.
My dog did this as a pup, only with larger ragging items like a large sweatshirt or towel or something. If he could wrap his front legs around it while bitting it, it seemed to "get him aroused". Never did it on me though. I think even now if I tried to get him to rag something like his bed pillow and he could really "get wrapped around it" it would get him going. This seems to me to be an example of how it could be reflexive as another poster mentioned.
He does occationally like to hump playmates, but will off on command.
