Congratulations Jennifer on your new "baby?" To be honest, I have never heard of BoerBoels before. They are beautiful dogs though! Is the breed recognized by the AKC? How big (weight) will she get? Looking at the videos (thanks Norman), they look like they could get pretty big but they sound like gentle giants.
Have fun with your "little" girl.
They're a breed from RSA ( South Africa ) and they're not on the AKC list ( which is usually a good thing, ask the poor Border Collie folks about that ).
I've never met one that wasn't fairly aggressive, usually fear-based, so I wouldn't attach the "gentle giant" tab to them quite yet....
It's a hopeful sign that people are starting to work them, it'd be nice to see one get some type of meaningful title and establish maybe a "working lines" breeding program for the better examples that are imported here.
Unfortunately there is a Boerboel group (the ABC) that is pushing for AKC recognition. They are presently accepted for recording in the FSS. Bad news, if you ask me.
Will, I'm just curious.... How many BB's have you worked with. I have one I consider very stable, definitely a "gentle giant" with my family. He has never been worked any any capacity other than OB classes, and passed his CGC and USTT. I've only met a handful of other BB's besides my own.
I'm just wondering if I'm one of the lucky ones....
