I need some help finding an e-collar that will best suit my needs. I currently have a cheap-o model from Petsmart, which has honestly worked just fine, but it eats batteries and I have a few other issues with it.
This is what I am looking for, not in any particular order.
1. Rechargeable battery
2. Ability to change the stim level without opening it up...a dial would be great.
3. Would love a pager function of some sort.
4. Reasonably priced
I need it for Kira, my one year old GSD. We use it for a few things. First, for recalls as we spend a lot of time in the summer at our cottage which has open areas for her to run in, but no fences. Her recall is O.K. but I do not trust her as far as not chasing an animal, etc. I also use it occasionally for barking,as she can be quite a territorial barker.
I have 2 of the Innotek IUT-300 units. If you look around you can get these for about $180. It has a autofit feature so you know it is making contact with your dogs skin, it has the tone/pager feature, rechargable collar battery, and remote adjustable correction levels.
I have the Dogtra 1700, good quality, waterproof, 1/2 mile range, digital display dial so you can see the setting, also shows if battery needs charging, battery on both collar and transmitter can be charged without waiting for either to drain completely.
I did a fair amount of research both on the websites of different e-collar companies as well as a few threads on this site and decided on the Dogtra 1700, am very happy with it. http://www.leerburg.com/1700.htm
I have a Dogtra 200NCP GOLD and it's great. It has a 'pager' button on the side, rechargable, stimulation dial, a 'nick' button and a continuous button. I don't remember the range but it's probably a 1/2 mile. I like the dual charging attachment that came with it in case I want to buy a collar for my husband. <wink>
As for Petsmart training collars, don't waste your money. I purchased a no-bark collar from there several years ago and it was nothing but junk. Don't get me wrong, I buy a lot of stuff from Petsmart, just not anything that has to be reliable. The no-bark collar I have now is a Tri-Tronics Bark Limiter and the battery seems to last forever. It has five levels and I have never had it up that high on any of my dogs.
