I have a question about bite work with our 16 week old mal. Our pup is VERY high drive and LOVES to bite. Funny story...just the other day, we were at the beach and she started to go for my hands - I tried to redirect with a toy (as I was bleeding at this point) but she wanted nothing to do with it (I think she likes the reaction she gets when she bites me - I try to stay as stoic as possible but it HURTS!!!)...when she dropped my hand, I waded into the water up to my waist (fully clothed mind you...) to get away from her but it didn't stop her...she swam out to me and bit me in the backside (I have a HUGE black and blue welt to prove it!). By the way, the beachgoers must have been cracking up seeing me try to get away from this tiny little puppy...
Anyhow, its getting to the point where I dread doing work with her (I am a huge wimp...)...she bites me so hard that she draws blood every time. All of my shirts and jeans are ripped and my legs and arms are covered with scabs and bruises...I am sure you have all been there and I am sure that you are probably laughing to yourself reading this Anyhow, I invested in some scratch pants and she bites right through them...she's a tough little one! Any ideas of anything similar to scratch pants (but not a full bite suit) that I can purchase to help ease the pain of her bites? We have laid off of bite work now that she is teething and its making her bite me even more....HELP!
Not something you can wear all the time of course. But any time spent saving your hands and arms while the puppy is learning to redirect to toys/tugs is a welcome thing, and it helps to know that you're not going to get slashed by razors every time you are with the puppy.
Those look great! Thanks! I still have the problem though of her constantly wanting to bite me in the leg or behind Even though its hot out, I wouldn't dare wear shorts because my legs are covered in quarter size welts from her going at me...people probably think my husband beats me LOL...not to mention I no have holes in all of my jeans. Yikes!
How about leather scratch pants? I believe they're pretty tough, maybe someone has more knowledge about that. They're more expensive and the summer may rule out using them, I don't know. A shame to have to re-buy scratch pants though.
