My pups found corn on the cob in the field a last week and have loved playing with it since then. I had an idea...since I had one corn on the cob left in my freezer, I thought I would give it to them.
So I did...they are all acting like it was fresh meat! They love it!
Now...is it ok to do this?

Bad idea, unless you hold the cob and just let them eat the kernels off. Even then, it is grain and can cause problems (gas, allergies) for some dogs. Not worth the risk, considering dogs don't need grains in their diet at all.

Kemel Speidel, an 8 year old Chesapeake bay retriever, loves to chew on corn cobs. Kemel had to undergo his second surgery last week at All Creatures to remove the foreign body obstruction in his intestines. WARNING! Swallowing large indigestible materal can be dangerous

DON'T GIVE YOUR DOG CORN COBS!!! I speak from experience..........one dog, one corn cob and 3 bowel resectioning surgeries later I am hoping others can learn from what my dog and I went thru.
Did I add that the bill was almost 4 grand!!! It was a nightmare. I put some cooked corn on the cob out in my bird feeder, it got knocked on the ground and my Doberman swallowed it whole to prevent the other dog from having it. She didn't act sick or have any problems so I wrongly assumed she had digested it. 3-4 months after she swallowed it she began to vomit....I thought it was morning sickness as she had been bred several weeks prior. The thought of that corn never entered my mind. Long story short, she needed an exploratory (as corn cobs don't show up on radiographs)a bowel resectioning and then ended up having to be opened up two more times in the next week, got peritonitis and maintained her pregnancy til two weeks before they were due and then aborted the litter.
Not a good time for any of us and all because of a stupid ear of corn!!
OHHHHH MYYYYYY!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
I have been sick most of the day and have not done much with the pups. I wish I came back to the computer sooner to see if the cob was still there.
Prayers....prayers!!!

That did not make sense....what I meant to say is that I wish I came back to the computer sooner to read these posts and take the cob away from the pups....
They are 8 weeks old, I am pretty sure that they are unable to bite off chunks of it at this time...I will be checking right now...
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
