Over here we use tablet form and in the three Dogs i have owned in 30 years two still alive none has been sick or any ill effects by giving it before feeding, all i do is to put the tablet in a small piece of Brown bread and they are gone, but i guess a lot of you will frown at giving the dogs a small piece of bread, But never the less one lived until he was 16.5 years old Vets Bills Hardly any. the second is over 14 years old and still alive and well Vets bills not a lot. the third is 8 months old
In fact i just wormed the two at noon today, this time with Drontal they were fed at 5.30 this afternoon
I never worm them with the same product every time but change Brands

No frowning here.......
A couple of small pieces of bread is not going to hurt a dog at all. I share my toast with my Dutch once in a while, with peanut butter on it......

John,
What kind of worms are you trying to treat with panacure (Fenbendazole)? I was getting conflicting info (even from vets) as to whether or not panacure killed tape worms. My dog had tape worms and I had fenbendazole horse wormer on hand. My vet said it was okay to use on my dog and gave me the dosing info. I squirted the horse wormer into him in the morning before feeding for three days.
Aparently, nausea is a common side effect. My dog was fine, though.
Fenbendazole is effective against only Taenia sp. tapeworms (contracted when a dog eats an infected rabbit or rodent, for example). It is NOT effective against the common tapeworm dogs pick up from fleas (Dipylidium caninum). Praziquantel is good to use against D. caninum (as in Droncit).
Steve - you are 100% wrong. You shoot your mouth off about something you are clueless about.
A word to anyone reading his post - listen to Cindy - this guy is a ONE-DOG wonder and I don't have patience for it. Cindy forgot
more about dogs last week than you have learned in your pigeon brained life.
Steve I tried putting a prong collar on a pigeon once - it didn't work. Just like comparing worming pigeons to dogs doesn't work.
Thought I'd update this post and get it back on track
I was worming as part of the advice I got from the breeder and vet and this was her 12 to 16 weeks course (after which I'll not worm unless I think she absolutely has them or someone with more knowledge tells me I should do a three or six monthly worming treatment).
I've been given a new treatment in tablet form called Milbemax which didn't make her sick but did make her very lethargic for quite a few days (I posted on another thread about crate time and asked if this caused a reduction in drive! THIS treatment, I believe, was the cause of the reduction in drive as my puppy is back as crazy as ever now!)
The vet was/is very good! Didn't charge me for brining her in for a checkup after the sickness (which you might say you'd expect but it's nice nonetheless to not have the hassle of an argument). The vets surgery I use is also not too bothered about me feeding raw and only asked if I was giving a varied diet and told me to watch for worms and what type of food I gave etc.
It's strange though as she's had Panacure in liquid form before and had no problem with it....this is why i was so confused!
