Does anyone know of a place around the DC area where I can buy chicken necks or backs at a low cost. I found a place that had them for .69/lb and then they raised it to 1.09/lb. I couldnt believe the price increase. Everyone here (web site) seems to be able to find it for .30 - .40 cents/lb. I do know of a place that sells it for .89 but thats still kind of high. Any help would be great, Thanks!
try joining this group........someone there can probably help you. there may even be a special group just for your area but this is a place to start...
Don't feel bad Mark, the price is rising everywhere. My supplier went up an extra .10 a lb and didn't tell me before they delivered a 900lb order.
If you don't find a supplier through that list, look in yahoo groups for a local barf list and ask about where people get their stuff. If you post your area and what you are looking for you may find someone like me who does orders for other people. I don't mark up the price at all, but they HAVE TO pick it up the day it arrives. I don't have enough freezer space to store it all.
Just FYI, the list I posted USED to be called the BARF supplier list....guess some people have been given a problem from Dr. Billinghurst for using "his" copyrighted name.
Wow Mark. I'm a about an hour and half south of DC and I pay 48 cents a pound or less for whole chickens, thighs,or quarters. Necks, maybe 30 cents. If I'm paying 89 cents for anything, it's beef.
And this is at Farm Fresh, not exactly a wholesaler. If Cindy's group doesn't pan out, you may want to see if you have a FF in DC-I know they've got em in Richmond.
glad I don't live where you guys/gals do, we always have sales about once a month here where chicken quarters go for .19/lb, and you can get a 2lb pack of necks for well under a dollar.
