What I meant to say is already written in an idea and an observation rather than a word. " If you don't train them with the utmost care and correct them just right, you will get bit". Of course their are other dogs that would do the same thing but I believe this type of reaction is much more pronounced and prevalent in the Chow.
I wouldn't trust ANY dog around a baby. Bruno is my second chow and the first response to this thread that linked to Ed's article explains him to a T. You can't hit them and expect that to work. They'll come back harder the next time.
On the other hand my first chow, Pivo, DID tolerate all of the fur grabbing without a problem. He was NEVER aggressive to anyone. Unfortunately he was neglected IMHO for the first 8 years of his life. When we got him he had matted fur all over his body. He even had dirt mashed under his fur against his skin. He was never played with or even socialized with by his own family (They were our neighbors in base housing). He was the coolest dog we have ever had in our lives. He only lived 2 years with us as 2 episodes with heart worms with his previous owners did a number on his body.
Personally I love the chow chow but they are not your average dog.
