thanx sandy, ur thoughts were exactly mine, and this only happens in the morning when i see her for the first time, she doesnt jump up and nip like that any other time..the only other time she is allowed to maybe come up is when im sitting on the ground and i want her to lie on my lap so that i can give her a rub down and give her a full check, but then that she comes slowly and get on with ease...
the mornings she is way more energetic jumping and nipping and running around then coming back and jumping up again.
i honestly dont have a problem with her doing this, but i kno the bigger she gets the harder this will get and if she is able to knock me down il be losing alpha points..lol...
thanx rich, for sharing ur experiences, but i never used the alpha roll and i have no intention of using it. whenever i get "advice" from ppl i make sure i read up about it before doing it. and thats why i posted the question to leerburg...
so, in summary..i wont be using the alpha roll..and i wont be suggesting any1 use it.and i will also be corrected the person who told me about it.
and i hope i can help ppl in the future to realise the impact of this insane method..
anyways...i found a way to minimize the jumping over the weekend...sat for hours thinking about trying to distract her and getting her attention focused on something else maybe.
so what i do now is in the mornings i call her up to the gate and show her her "fetch ball" and i get her focused on it thru the fence, then i toss it over the fence for her to get it and then i go in and then she brings the ball back and i get it and i toss it and so on for a few minutes..this gets her spending that initial burst of energy on something other than me...lol
and then once i feel she is now fully focused on fetch..i put the ball in my pocket and she hold her sit until i tell her to come out. she still jumps up on me once or twice but with a lot less force and no nipping. so i think we have made progression.
id like your comments on what i have tried...i dont think there should be any adverse effects to this...
I just wanted to respond to Sandy's comment about leaving the e-collar on at night. I've never had a problem with this on any of my dogs. If I have a dog who barks all the time I put the collar on in the evening and it doesn't come off until the a.m. I would not want to leave it on longer than that though. This is pretty normal for a bark collar. My neighbor(s) are way to sensitive to noise from the dogs and it must be under control or I'll have complaints via the city in no time flat.
