Are you separating them? That is, are you keeping the dog away from the children when they're swinging? That's number 1, and top priority.
Is this the only time he ever nips? And is nipping what you mean?
Well I do not keep the dog away from her because they are close and I want it to stay that way. My grand daughter is 5yo and never left alone with the dog. She likes to swing and hold his leash while doing so and they swing off then on the swing back it looks like he is trying to get her leg in his mouth. So I am not sure what he is doing. He even knows what she means when she says ready set go.
Sounds like he's seeing it as a game, especially if he anticipates her "ready, set, go", but it doesn't sound like a good game, IMO. Catching moving objects is prey/play behavior, and while he may not mean any harm, this can quickly escalate and she may end up getting hurt. Additionally, if he thinks that's ok behavior, and does it to another child, you are in big, big trouble...
Do you mean American Bulldog when you say ABD or am I missing something really obvious?

I think that you are making a huge mistake to let this happen, whether you are present or not. You're allowing a very bad "game" to continue, with danger to your own grandchild and any other children who might be around the dog.
I did not know what his behavior meant so I came on this board for guidance and advice. I am so happy for the advice and will put an immediate stop to the swinging. I have been around dogs all my life and have never seen this before, again thanks for the info and so quickly.

I forgot to mention that the explaination about the prey drive really made me understand what my dog (Mac) was doing so thanks again.
He does have prey drive always has.
