OK, so we've established that kibble = bad. I've (for MY purposes) established that raw = zero evidence supporting good.
However, I think that BARFers obviously have something going here. That is, home preparation for their dog's nutrional needs.
Anyone here prepare home cooked meals for their pooches? If so, what are the general guidelines you follow? Am I on the track in saying that it would be a good idea to have blood work done before starting?
Aaron have you ever looked into pre made raw diet? If you are willing to go to the expense of cooking and buying ingredients the premade may be the way to go. It's less time consuming and may help with your concerns for health reasons. Just a thought
And actually, I've heard from the BARFers (sorry, it's a just more convenient term) that cooking destroys essential nutrients (enzymes, etc.) . . . can anyone identify them? If they've been singled out, it can't be that hard to procure them as supplements (I assume).
Aaron,
Did you join the K9 Nutrition list. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> There are several people on there, including one of the moderators that has homecooked for her dogs since the 80's.
I think you will find the answers to your questions there.
