Hi!
I am new on the forum so this is my first post. We have a 10 month old shepherd, German working dog from one parent, Czech border patrol on the other side. We bought him when he was 4 months old. His temperament is excellent, but he barks like crazy when he sees another dog. If we go to the other dog (if the other owner is not too terrified) he just licks the dog and tries to play. We had him neutered at 9 months of age. I was using the prong collar, but now I discovered from your website how to fit it properly. He is a bit better now that I am using the collar properly, but he still barks.
Also one day when I was throwing his ball he jumped up to get it and landed on his back. His right rear leg was hurt but he recovered after a few days. Recently he stepped in a pothole and reinjured it. I think it is a muscle or tendon. We are keeping him as quiet as possible. Instead of rough housing with the neighbor's dog we walk around, but it is hard because he wants to run. Any suggestions?
I am reading your e-book now about pack leader. He listens better to my husband but both us have trouble controling the barking.
Thanks
annie
I had the same problem recently with Bella, my lab. It took about 1 1/2 weeks for her to recover. I would simply have her down the whole time until she needed to go to the bathroom, and then she gets to walk. But after that, she lies down again. This drove her sort of crazy because she needs plenty of excersize, and she was getting zero. But she got better...
And after she stopped limping, I have been building her level of excersize up a little more all the time. She is almost where she was before the injury only a few weeks later, and I am relieved to have this over with. Just remember to be very patient with this injury, and give the dog time to heel. Get well to your dog...
