Okay, up till now we have only used prey items with Levi, i.e., balls, rags, stuff attached to strings, decoy stuff..you get the point. He is all over this stuff, however, I want to start introducing him to something else. I want to use a sleeve but don't want to have him come at me and since I haven't got anyone to help me I was wondering what the forum would suggest. I was looking at the pillows that Ed sells here..would that be something good to use? What other things should I be using for him right now getting him ready to start protection work? I need a list. hehehe
Be careful when trying to build a foundation for bitework on your own, especially if you have never titled a dog in the past. It is much much harder to undo and reteach bad foundation work than it is to just teach it correctly to begin with. If you have never been trained to give a bite on a sleeve, I would tell you not to start now on your dog. No club near your home? If you must do thid work on your own you can work with a bite pillow or large firm tugs and backtie him. If you have not watched preparing your dog for the helper, it is very informative. Also, take the money you would spend on a sleeve and find a good seminar so you can get some formal training. That will help you more than anything else. Good luck!
