This may sound like a stupid Question , but to me one i do not know and need to find out
How big a collar does a full grown G.S Dog need this is from Buckle to end of collar
A long time ago i bought from Leerburg a flat leather Collar for Pup Fred' now 9 months old
I bought the biggest one they sell expecting him to grow into it and he may do but it is far too big at this time and i am loath to cut it , a dis service to the maker of it if i did that
I know Dogs necks differ but a general size collar would be helpful because i need another one for Fred, But the Quality over here is not the same as Leerburg, He is now starting Work on the Jute Pillow and he really goes at it,
The handler a big fellow last Sunday has a Job to hold him and him holding on to the pillow he was at full stretch and straining from head to tail and the leather collar i found for him is too thin, 'not wide enough' i am scared he will injure his neck muscles,
So i need to get onto leerburg as soon as possible to get it ordered, and a Short Leash as i plan to walk him in the city very soon, but i will have a prong on him and a Dominant collar for that walk,
A quick reply from someone would be obliged as every day counts measuring his neck with a piece of string it is just under 18''
Steve and Sarah, I need to order a collar for Lear also. Just measured his neck and it's about 20 inches (measured around the fur and not tightly). Checking Ed's site and wanting a "all around" leather flat collar that can be used for bite work and whatever else, I checked the leather agitation collars. They come in 1 1/4" and 2" wide, neck size 15-22": http://www.leerburg.com/leatheragitcollar.htm
I have to call and make sure of the measurement from the buckle to the last hole but I believe it will fit and I have to decide between the 1 1/4" or the 2".
If you got the largest collar for your dog from Ed, it was 18" to 25" and maybe the agitation collar would work better for you. If you don't have an agitation harness, you might want to get the 2" agitation collar.
As a general rule I think you usually add 2 inches to the actual neck measurement when deciding on the correct collar size. I measured my dogs neck at 18 inches (measuring pretty snug around her neck) and went with the medium size collar.
Coincidently I just ordered this collar in the 2-inch width from Leerburg and used it for the first time today...LOVED IT! I probably would have been fine with the small size but it fits her fine in the 2nd to last hole.
It is a very nice collar; I would highly recommend it. The leather is a good quality and durable but it is still soft and pliable. I have returned another bought elsewhere that was very thick, stiff and heavy.
