Hi all,
My 2 year old cairn bitch is in heat at the moment. She has become very lazy and wont eat, just sleeps all day.
Is this normal. I changed her diet the other day and to be honest she is not eating like she use to, where as before when i put her food down she would devour it. but now she doesnt touch it. Has anyone any advice on this, is this normal?
Last but not least, my self and my girlfriend went on holidays the other week and left our dog with friends. She was well lookied after but again went off her food. Why is this?
Thanks all
Gavin

Gavin,
What are you feeding currently? and what were you feeding?
Females get weird during cycles sometimes, but I have not heard of going off of food and sleeping a lot......
She may have gone off of her food because of the separation from you guys, or she may not feel well.
When was the last time she was at the vet? Wormed?
Do you give vaccinations? If so, how recent was the last vacc?

We were giving her pedigree tin food for a while but her breth was foul. The vet told us to switch to a dry food, which we did. She was fine up until we went away really. But that was nearly 2 months ago now. The people we left her with have two dogs and we were told she got on well with both, could this be apart of it?
Now that you mention it its been 7 months since her worming
Above is a list of kibbles that work well. And there is tons of info on raw.
I would also say that it may be time to see the vet and have her wormed.
I am sure someone who knows a lot more than I can comment on her heat cycle and if her behavior is normal.
I would say no to it having anything to do with her being at your friends since it has been two months. Unless, her behavior has been going on since she came home. When did her behavior start?
Sounds like it was at the start of her cycle????

Honestly it was since we went on the holday. Since then she has not really been herself.
I read about the natural diet for dogs and ill switch her to that.
Im getting her wormed tonight after work so hopefully the vet will shed light on the situation.

I am interested to see what the vet says, please keep us posted.
Good luck!!
(good for you to switch to raw, this board is an excellent resource for any information you need. It has helped me immensley and my dogs are the better for it!!!)

Im not sure to be honest. The vet said it can take a dog sometime when you change the food but to be honest i dont know if this is the problem.
The vet said she is fine. Nice and lean, fit and well looked after but that doesnt answer my question.
Ive switched her to the diet mentioned above so im going to wait and see how she is for a week or two. If there is no change ill bring her back to the vet again. Fingers crossed.
Thanks Everyone
Gavin
