Good to hear Katie. Thanks for the update.
Has there been any progress on finding the owners?
Yeah, I'd think there needs to be a concerted effort to find the owners, although I can see why the people who neutered one of the dogs wouldn't want that to happen.
Well my understanding is that the shelter has a "redemption period" of 6 days -- after that the dog is put up for adoption. I know I posted just the end of last week, but I am not certain actually when the dogs were found. Word spread of the dogs and apparently 4 potential homes came forward during the waiting period.
Not sure what the story is with the vet hospital -- apparently the shelter had offered to take the dog (the neutered one) in order to keep them together at least at the shelter -- and they also had the potential homes. I know the vet hospital part sounds fishy...?!?!?!
The vet hospital is working with the American Belgian Malinois Club's rescue organization. Not sure if the ABMC contacted them or they contacted the ABMC. The ABMC requires fostering before placing the dog in a home -- that is where my friend comes in.
Anyway, I would think the ABMC would make every effort to find the owners. I contacted just about every tattoo registry that Kimberly provided and posted on Pedigree Database and my friend has been searching too.
Seems that there will be no effort to locate the original owners.
Jim -- I can speak for myself -- I have made an effort and I honestly think others have too. Conversely, makes me think -- are the original owners looking for the dogs?
From personal experience contacting these tattoo registries you get a person on the phone who checks their records in 60 seconds and then gives you the names and numbers of other registries.
This has hit home for me that tattooing does NOT equate to my dog being returned to me -- only that if I would find her and the tattoo was unaltered I could positively identify her.
I know if my dog were missing I wouldn't rest -- I would seriously be on a mission.
