Hello,
I was wondering what people's opinions on the distemper vac for dogs. My pup is 15 months old now and due for his rabies shot, my vet wants to give the distemper too. I've been reading a lot about how bad over-vaccinating your dog can be. What's everybodies opinions? Thanks in advance!
At 15 months? My opinion is to say absolutely not to the vet, but I'll let others elaborate. I'm sure the vet would love to continue to give this vaccine the rest of the dog's life, if he could get away with it.

That's my take, too.
While it's possible at any age, distemper is an under-six-months disease.
I don't think your dog needs the Distemper or the Rabies shots.
I would also ask about getting a titer test to confirm immunity to rabies rather than get another shot for it. My vet told me they don't do them but that the vet school at the university does.
I have heard of people getting around the legal requirements for the rabies vaccine with titer test verification of immunity.
If your vet won't help you on this find a new one (homeopathic if possible). Be prepared with as much information as you can when you go to your vet, he will be more likely to make an attempt to keep you happy.
Jeff Levy, DVM says that if you vaccinate for rabies you can give a rabies nosode - Lyssin 30C, next day Thuya 30C, one week later give Sulphur 6X for one week to minimise the damage from the shot.
Thanks for all the replies, I knew this was strange and it's making me question this vet even more. I'm going to get his rabies shot this time and then I'm going to do Titer tests from here on out. And if this vet has a problem with that then I'm off the next one!
