Finding the right motivator makes a huge difference, eh Rick? You've already taught her that when a potential distractor comes along thats its tug time. Good job.

Thanks!
Like I said above, nothing gets her going like when I am getting her food ready! I wish I could have that kind of explosiveness with these toys, but perhaps that will get better with time. I am still happy about the excitedness she shows when we go out and play. It is about a 7 out of 10 whereas the food is a strong 10. But the new toy definately moved it up to about 8.5-9...
So, the idea of tugging when distractions come around is good? I figured it would get her mind on the toy, as she would hopefully want to keep it more than meet a new person. Well, it sure worked, although I wonder if it was one of the old toys if she would have let go. Regardless, it is on me to keep things interesting at that point, not the toy. Right?

In this case, yes.

Sometimes the toy is only what you make of it. Lets fix one problem at a time, and thats of the original question you asked. Now that you have found a motivator to fix the outing problem from distractions you can move on from there, but not until she's proofed or you are satisfied enough to go forward.
