I dont know the exact term but one of my dogs from time to time get oil sacs....like zits. I thought that maybe when I switched to raw he wouldnt get them anymore. However from time to time he still gets them.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to feed him to help with his zits?
I feed a free ranging chicken back based diet with salmon oil.
Thanks
Mike

On his face? Muzzle?
I have one of those dogs too.
I can give you a couple of ideas if it is on the face. It seems to be in places where the hair is very short, like the chin.
But if you mean in the groin or elsewhere, and if you mean pus-filled or large or odorous or brown, then it's different.
What I mean are little short-lived bumps on the muzzle. I use Malaseb wipes (in a little jar..... round damp wipey pads) occasionally on the area to keep the pores from clogging.
No, they pop up just about anywhere, A couple days ago I popped one that was near the top of his back close to the shoulder.
He seems to get them in that area but he has had them around his legs also.
The vet says they are oil sacs and that some dogs get them but GSD are prone to them and they arent anything more than a zit, they fill with oil from their skin.

Oh. That's good that there's no pus or anything. Did the vet say to pop them? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't. Do you use an antibacterial on the site afterwards? Maybe a hydrogen peroxide wipe?
No, I'll have to ask him what the tech term is for it the next time I see him.
They normally pop and go away on their own, the other day when I popped one , I barely sqeezed it and it popped, it must have been ready to blow anyhow!
Thanks
Mike
