I just started the research for the all natural diet and am just beginning to understand the pro's and con's. My bitch had a real bout of itching which started about 3 years ago. She was scratching at the ears and neck and all the vet would do for me is to put her on prednisone. We did that for a couple months but and I was told that one of the reasons may be food related. I had always fed an expensive brand of kibble but I started to try different varities and tried to find something she would eat and have the minimum of problems. For the last 2 years I have been feeding her Iams with no corn and she has done well with it. She will itch from time to time but is 90% better than when she was scratching all the time. I just read Ed's column on the natural diet and am thinking about ordering the book. My brother in law who is a veteranarian is not a fan of the raw diet. Is there a kibble out there which is all natural and has a minimum of processing?? And then I think I would be getting the vitamin E and salmon oil as well. Thanks in advance. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
I had the same problem with one of my house dogs. Would chew his paws til they bled and would get ear infections constantly. Tried many different foods. Vet even had me do homemade dinners to rule out food, haha and wanted to put him on antihistimines for the rest of his life. I put him on Canidae about 3 yrs ago and haven't had a problem since and he doesn't need medication either. you can get info on canidae at http://www.canidae.com
Hope this helps.
I've had good luck with california natural. My dog is sensitive so I haven't been able to start her on raw yet but with the supplements the holistic vet has her on she is improving enough that raw might be in her future (one allopath told us to euthanize Auster, and the other ran a lot of expensive tests and didn't know what the crap she was doing).
I don't listen to vets about food anymore. After one suggested a corn based kibble for my dog that can't have any grain but rice, I don't listen unless they are a holistic vet that has tried to learn something beyond what the kibble companies told them in vet school. That and I eat raw meringue (and cookie dough whenever I make the stuff) so if I can have it then the dog should be able to (since I don't eat cat poop and survive just fine) LOL.

Hi
i am feeding a average good dogfood ( lower protein)German brand so that might be not intresting for you.
I enrich my dogfood with a all in one supplement to the special needs of every dog which is in my stock. Older , puppy , full training ,lower training, winter ,summer conditioning, muscletone, coat etc.
This i am buying in US, the name is Vertex.
This supplement is all natural and especially created for the needs of dogs. I am not against raw feeding ( my dogs get a raw green tripe-cure several times a year too)
but i rather go with one same dogfood for all my dogs and enrich it with a one in all product .
I dont want to spend the most of my time in mixing every bowl with 100 diffrent things for every dog, i like more to see them in action, movement and training how they use up that what i put in.
Here s the website of the company
I had a male for training which had kind of allergic reactions when i got him, after he was put on Vertex it was gone because the ingredients were easy to digest and did nt use a lot engery and enzymes in the dogs body like a lot of the high premium dogfoods do.
One of my breedingfemales always lost weight and a lot coat before coming in heat also she had very dry skin ,shed in the ears that all that was history after put her on Vertex.
