My puppy has demodex mange, and the vet prescribed daily baths w/benzoyl peroxide shampoo for a month. We started seeing his hair growing back in after only the fourth day, but of course I've kept giving the baths as prescribed. We have 5 days left. Has anyone ever had the mange come back after treatment? I'm just curious. I will be so glad when we're done. Even though I've used a conditioner after his shampoo (vet approved), and I always rinse him thoroughly, he has developed flaking skin/dandruff.
I even considered stopping the treatment now, so his poor skin can go ahead and start to recover, but I'm afraid not to finish the entire month of baths.
Oddly enough, the first scraping was negative, but the vet was almost positive it was demodectic mange. She also did a scraping for ringworm, just in case, but it was negative as well. She must have been right aboout the mange, as the shampoo worked almost immediately. So I guess I'll just finish the shampoo regimen and cross my fingers.
And he is on Salmon Oil and Vit E, and I am in the process of switching him over to a better kibble (Canidae). Thanks for your help!
