I am happy to report to the board that yesterday Levi and I went to Home Depot and Petsmart and at neither store did he even glance down at his feet when he hit the tile/concrete! Guess practice makes perfect! Now I can walk into a store and not feel like people are saying, "Wow, look at that pretty shepherd, what a whimp, though". Now we need to get him to a point where he can be around other dogs w/o going bonkers! He used to just bark aggressively at other dogs, now he is literally lunging, hair standing up on his back! Yesterday was the first day that I used the prong collar on him and it seemed to only increase his drive when I tried to control him around another dog. Not quite sure what to do about this. After a little while he will calm down around another dog but not until he is certain the other dog is not a threat. I'd love some ideas...seems like things I worry about last week work themselves out this week but then something else creeps up and replaces it, GRRRR!!
congrats on overcoming the phobia! i've given up on my oldest male and his floor issues... i just make him wear the boots whenever we're going to encounter slippery floors. you can imagine the looks we get
i wonder if Levi's dog aggression issues call for a dominant dog collar? i'm just thinking out loud... i know that for some dogs (especially if they already have a high drive) the prong will only agitate them further when it comes to aggression. (though i did use a prong with much success with my kobi and his dog issues)
