I've taken Kodee pretty much everywhere w/me since I got him. The other day I took him to Sonic, and they offered us a "dog dish." I said "sure", thinking it was actually some kind of dish. No, it's a dish of vanilla ice-cream. When we got home I gave it to my kids instead of the pup. Am I right in assuming that ice-cream isn't good for a dog? I just figured dairy, especially w/all that sugar and fat, wasn't good for a puppy. Maybe I'm wrong. The only dairy I've given Kodee so far is plain yogurt and cream cheese (in a Kong). What do you think? (Does Sonic know something I don't? LOL)
I think Sonic's homogenized, pasteurized dairy and sugar sweetened ice-cream is just as healthy for dogs as their white flour bread and sodas are healthy for people.
Just because it tastes good and lots of people and dogs eat it doesn't mean it's healthy.
My answer is no.
I think unprocessed foods are the best thing for dogs and people.
One of my pet stores has doggie ice cream, I never looked at the ingredients. Not sure what it is and if that's what their giving.Better safe then sorry then, nice of them to offer though.
I'm certain the ones at Sonic are just plain vanilla ice cream that they serve for dessert. (I tasted it before giving it to my kids. Now they beg me to get a "doggie dish" everytime we go there. LOL! Didn't even know there was such a thing as "dog-ice cream".
Yikes! I just looked at the Frosty Paws stuff - I'd rather give my dog the Sonic ice cream. yuck!
