I have a 6 1/2 month old female and I'm wondering if she's in heat. She's not bleeding and the area surrounding her vulva is very swollen. I was expecting the actual vulva to be more swollen. My neutered male is paying a lot of attention to her and has attempted to mount her several times. She's not flagging, but she's still a puppy. I'm not leaving her outside unsupervised just in case, just wondering if this could be a heat or not, she doesn't seem to be licking it and cleaning it a lot...It's been like this for about a week. Any ideas?
My male has been driving me crazy for the past 2 weeks, but my female only started with the blood 2 days ago. Now she's walking around in doggy panties and I keep my male strictly isolated from her
If your male is trying to mount her then your male is allowed too much access to her.

She may be an extremely clean female and taking care of any blood. Wipe her with a white cloth first thing in the morning before she urinates and see if there is any blood.

Yep, I've heard it referred more as a silent heat though. Annabelles first few cycles were very erractic and all over the place, as she matured they regulated though.
It makes sense that it would be erratic at first. My male was around her because I wasn't really sure what was going on. She is so much smaller than him, (she's 35lbs and he's 100lbs) and he's neutered so I wasn't worried, but i'm sure it's best to keep them a part.
