IMO, it is a good thing to be so conscientious of a breeds temperament, I was just confused by the choice of wording. Even if they are trying to "dumb it down" for the average joe, which is required most of the time, I think it is almost dangerous the way they put it.
I don't think I would want someone to buy a dog, not matter the breed, and not train it and simply expect it to "out" or "drop it" on command whenever, wherever. Hopefully someone who misunderstood to that level would not be able to get a dog from a breeder but unfortunately there are people who don't screen prospective buyers before selling a pup.
On this note I have worked with dogs where the "drop it" / "leave it" commands where very very easy to teach, but as Yuko gave an example for, they were all handler-sensitive dogs. One example being the pup I am currently training/co-own. He is a 7 month Dobe/GSD (I am getting pics this weekend) but Duke is an interesting case, he was a rescue from people that left the puppies outside to fend for themselves with zero human contact. All they ever did was throw out meat for all the dogs. Duke had no human contact until the day I got him at a little over 12 weeks, he is quite handler sensitive. Ah, I rant.
