Stephanie, That is an amazing story. Did your dog ever recover 100%?
Jennifer wanted to offer the $5,000 reward because she is trying to flush out a thief. I agree that she needs to be prepared to pay the reward to someone who FOUND the dog, but not to someone who STOLE it. Frankly, if it were me, I wouldn't care less about reaping/sowing or karma when it comes to the bastards who stole the dog. I think the problem would be unless she could prove they stole the dog, she would have to pay it. I'd try every trick in the book too as long as it was legal.
Jennifer, maybe you could still offer the reward, then if you get the dog back, pay it in installments?
I will be posting a stud ad to help flush them out also, and have been checking for litters due, but at this point it has not been long enough for Cajun to have sired pups that were of an age to sell.
Stephanie - I tried contacting the local PIs and there is nothing they will do for me, I couldn't even hire them. I will contact PD again as I do have a family friend or two that are officers, but I am really not sure what they can do for me. I have no leads at all and a lot of people just think my dog "ran away" though it is still considered theft if you keep a dog that you find and do not respond to found ads, etc. I had a radio ad, a flier in the paper, an ad in the freebie paper, and I put up fliers in legal areas (I checked) that would not have been removed by PD. I put up an initial reward that I intended to pay if I got any response. I had no response. I do not feel that this was professional or organized, I think someone just wanted him based on his looks and has been keeping him for whatever purpose, out of the public eye.
Debbie - I have absolutely nothing that I can sell - I have sold everything I can and it wasn't much. Without a car I cannot work, no work, no money at all. I would give almost anything to have him back, but I am at the limit of what I can and can't live without. I have no toys or gadgets, no extra nothings unless someone wants to buy my clothes or a couple of old magazines. If I felt that a family had simply found and been taking care of him, I would gladly pay a reward.
I am trying to flush out a theif, not find an honest person. I cannot get a personal loan, I already have one. I have offered less money as a reward, I offered everything I have (cash wise) and had no takers. I do appreciate your concern for my reputation, though
Richard - thanks for the info. Is it disheartening but I will find another route or a way that I really can offer a substantial amount of money. Perhaps just saying substantial reward, which would be paid to an honest person, but to a dishonest person maybe my definition of substantial is $100 haha. I will continue to research this further and will be putting out a new wave of fliers/posters. I posted around 250 last time, I will post 500 this time and will be taking fliers to schools and back to the vets and the stores I previously posted at.
