How about if you tried back-tying him and attached the squirrel thing to the end of a whip. That way you could have it fly back and forth right in front of his face and the only way for him to get it would be to grab it in mid-air.
This is bringing up an old post, I know. But, one of Bella's gifts for Christmas was a flying squirrel. I used this method of back-tying her, and it is working very well. I took her off and gave it a go with her free, and she caught it twice in a row! "Woo-hoo!," I thought as on the second catch she was all the way in the air. I was amazed at her athletisism, but I don't know why because she is getting quicker seemingly by the session with the Flinks training we have been doing...just ask my mangled hands!
LOL, Rick-I have to laugh when I look back at some of my posts when I first got Kodee. Already he has learned so much, including how to catch! We practiced like Rich mentioned, bouncing the ball straight up in the air, which gave him time to get under it, as he knew where it was going to be.
The other day for the first time, I tossed him a floppy frisbee, and he caught it. He also catches treats on a regular basis. So far he hasn't caught his flying squirrel, but we haven't played w/it much lately. I'm sure he'll catch it, no problem. He's a natural...LOL
